SCC End of Year Race - Saturday Sept 3rd, 2011

SCC End of Year Race
Saturday Sept 3rd, 2011

The club will run a short time trial [two categories] followed by a criterium race [for “B” and “C” group riders] at Delki Dozzi track starting at 9:00 a.m. [1st rider out] followed by a club social at Guy’s place.

This is for SCC club members only.  Non-members can join the club that day with a $30 fee.  This may seem a bit steep but we have to follow insurance regulations.   There will be no race fees and no prizes  ...  just bragging rights later at Guy’s

Pre-registeration only via email [no exceptions] - frankbattaion@yahoo.ca,  The deadline is Wednesday Aug 31.  This is important so Frank can group the riders before hand - as you will be timing each other in pairs.

Time Trial
Riders will be paired [slower with faster] and will time each other ... so we can run 4-5 riders at once.  This is the same format we did last year for the 5 km TT at Frank and Keith’s Special.  The teams and "heats" will be arranged ahead of time.  All TT's will start from the fly at the top of the hill with timing commencing at the line.  Stop watches, timing sheets and clip-boards will be provided for each team.  We will run a time trial bike category and also an Eddie Merckx [road bike only with no bars] category.

Criterium
A 30 minute +5K event for Group “B” and “C” riders.  Some “A” riders will also be in the race to help launch attacks, bridge, provide “on the fly” strategy and to mix it.

Social
626 Sunnyside Rd (Long Lake to Sunnyside and about 750 meters down on the right hand side)  The club will provide food and drinks, but please feel free to bring a small side dish or appetizer.

2010 5 km TT [from the fly] Champions
Eddie Merckx Cat            Rob Rice   6:55
Time Trial Bike             Derek D     6:37

“Possible” bonus feature includes SCC’s own Tom Hums attempting once again to break the track’s flying “killermeter”.  He posted a blistering 1:13.9 in 2010.  The record is 1:11.8 set in 1997.

The Inside Ride

The Inside Ride
The Inside Ride is a coast to coast Canadian foundation that raises money in support of children living with and beyond cancer.  The Inside Ride is an extraordinary two-hour indoor cycling challenge that is fun, safe and team-based, that promotes volunteerism and encourages physical activity.  The support provided by organizations like yours is vital to improving the world for kids living with, and beyond cancer.

“As a former competitive cyclist, I had the privilege (and a ton of fun!) participating in one of the Inside Ride cycling events, a terrific fundraiser for childhood cancer.  The energy and enthusiasm of the organizers (Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation) and participants is inspiring, and means a brighter future for kids and their families impacted by cancer.  Count on me to continue to support your amazing efforts and dedication to such an important cause.”  Curt Harnett, Three Time Olympic Medalist

Your fundraising efforts will provide support where the needs are greatest, including funding of kids cancer camps, family support programs and research which contribute to inspiring hope and improving the prognosis for children and their families impacted by cancer.

The proceeds of the Inside Ride Sudbury Event will flow through to Camp Quality Northern Ontario.  Camp Quality Northern Ontario is a week-long camping program that provides a wonderfully unique opportunity for children with cancer to put their illness behind them and concentrate on having fun!  Each camper is matched with a trained adult volunteer and participates in a wide variety of fun activities with their adult volunteer.  Additionally, Camp Quality conducts a year-round support program that includes a reunion weekend, and educational puppet program and ongoing personal contact with campers and their families.  Our camp and our year-round programs are volunteer-run, community-funded and are available at absolutely no cost to the campers.

Camp Quality’s Mission: “No one can do anything about the quantity of life, but we all can do something about the quality.”  This is the mission that Camp Quality delivers to the campers; a quality time with quality people who present a quality program.

The Inside Ride Sudbury in support of Camp Quality Northern Ontario will be held at Tom Davies Square Foyer, 200 Brady Street, Sudbury, on Sunday September 18, 2011 at 11:00am.  The event will be two-hours of fun, uplifting music, with a bit of stationary cycling thrown in.  There will be prizes and medals for fundraising, team spirit, team costume and team mileage.  Each team must have a minimum of 6 participants and will rotate every 10min’s throughout the two-hour duration.  Each team is required to donate a minimum of $1,000, which can be generated through fundraising, self-donations, or any combination that can be thought of.  While there is a minimum donation there is no limit on what you can fundraise; all donations are tax deductible and receipts will be provided.
